Architectural practice in Newbury, Berkshire

Proactively managing your architectural project from start to finish

Our project manager Richard will carry out a 60-minute full measured survey, using laser tools and digital mapping to capture every detail. These measurements form the foundation for your drawings — accurate, reliable, and ready for planning and structural design.

Our architect will create a full set of proposed drawings, showing layouts, elevations and materials. These aren’t just pretty pictures — they’re practical, buildable plans. We’ll walk you through the designs, take on board your feedback, and refine everything before submitting for planning.

Before anything is submitted to a planning authority or priced by a builder, we can show you exactly what your finished project will look like. Our photorealistic 3D visualisations let you see your design in its setting — the materials, the light, the view from the garden — so you can make decisions with confidence and arrive at planning with a proposal that’s already been properly considered.

Our structural engineer steps in here, producing calculations and load-bearing designs that match your plans. Whether it’s steels for an open-plan layout or reinforcements for a new storey, this is where we make sure it all works safely — and affordably — in the real world.

Once planning is in place, we prepare the detailed construction drawings for building controls approval. We can work with either your local council or a private inspector. This stage ensures everything complies with regs — structure, fire safety, drainage, insulation — so you’re legally covered and ready to build.

99% of the planning applications we submit are approved first time. That’s not a figure we arrived at by avoiding difficult projects — we work regularly with listed buildings, conservation areas, AONB sites and Green Belt plots across Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. It comes from doing the right work before an application is submitted: pre-application consultation, thorough heritage assessments where needed, and designs that engage seriously with local planning policy rather than hoping for the best.

We pull together a detailed cost breakdown, timeline and work schedule. You’ll know exactly who’s doing what and when, with no last-minute surprises. Health & safety compliance is managed throughout, and we stay hands-on from day one to final handover. It’s a managed build — not just a collection of trades.

A message from founder and director, Carl Drury

Over the years, I’ve been called in at every stage of a project; sometimes at the beginning, often after something has gone wrong. A planning refusal that “no one expected.” A builder relationship that has turned sour. A budget that drifted so gradually the owners only realised when it was too late.

One client told me, “We thought we were saving money.” By the end of the build, she had spent more correcting early decisions than she would have spent appointing the right team from the outset. Nothing dramatic, just small gaps in judgement that compounded.

That is what shaped how I practice. Architecture, in my view, is not about chasing trends or producing images for brochures. It is about protecting value; financial value, architectural integrity, and the long-term satisfaction of living in a well-resolved space. Much of that work happens before construction begins: reading planning policy carefully, identifying risk early, insisting on clarity in drawings, and structuring contracts so the client is protected when pressure inevitably arises.

The cheapest decision at the start is often the most expensive at the end. We avoid shortcuts, control detail, and protect value, so your build costs dont spiral and your investment holds its integrity over time.

We're an architectural practice based in Berkshire, serving Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and beyond

As an architectural practice in Newbury, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, we work mostly across the South of England from Berkshire and Oxfordshire to Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall, we have guided hundreds of clients through the process of reshaping their homes. Every county has its own character: the market towns of Oxfordshire, the stone cottages of Wiltshire, the coastal homes of Devon and Cornwall. Our work respects these settings while re-imagining them for modern life.

Sometimes it’s a growing family needing space in Berkshire. Sometimes it’s a farmhouse in Wiltshire that deserves careful restoration. Sometimes it’s a coastal property in Cornwall, where the challenge is balancing sweeping views with resilience against the elements. In each case, our approach is the same: clear guidance, elegant solutions, and designs built to last.
