Contemporary House Extension, Remodel and Landscape Design with Pool near Wantage, Oxfordshire

This project near Wantage began as a modest rendered cottage — pleasant enough, but constrained in space, light and character. The clients wanted something transformative: a home that worked properly for modern family life without losing its rural Oxfordshire setting. The result is a full remodel and substantial rear extension clad in dark timber, with full-width glazing, a bold contemporary roofline and two dormer windows that bring light deep into the upper floor. Inside, the ground floor opens into a generous kitchen and dining space that connects directly to the garden through floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. Outside, the landscape was designed from scratch around a central infinity pool with hardwood decking and a clean, considered planting scheme — turning what had been an unremarkable garden into the heart of the home. The project required careful handling with the Vale of White Horse planning authority, balancing the ambition of the design against the rural character of the site. Permission was secured first time.
