We are an architectural practice of designers and project managers, based in Newbury since 2010

Our design practice is made up of architectural designers and with the combined effort of planning consultants, structural engineers and project managers, we lead our clients from the very first conversation right through to completion if required. We are happy to be involved as much or as little as our clients require. We can either deliver those key architectural and planning services and leave them to find their builder or go a stage further and recommend a trusted, local contractor and help oversee the build for them too if needed. We are ultimately flexible and will shape the service to suit each client.

Our ethos as an architectural practice

Our ethos is simple: clarity, elegance, and practicality. We guide clients with confidence, shaping designs that respect place, pass planning, and endure over time.

Every project we take on reflects this balance; thoughtful homes and spaces that are not only beautiful, but buildable.

Guidance, Not Overwhelm

We believe good design is about making the right choices, not offering endless ones. Our role is to guide clients towards a solution that looks good, works well and stands the test of time.

That might mean improving the flow of a family home, carefully restoring a period property, or designing a new build that will still feel right in twenty years.

Practical Planning

Good design has to work in the real world. There is little value in producing impressive drawings if they are unlikely to gain planning permission or prove difficult to build.

We consider regulations, the character of the surrounding area and the practicalities of construction from the outset. This gives clients a clear, realistic route forward and confidence that their project can actually be delivered.

Our team, guiding you through every stage of your architectural project

At Kennet Design, our strength lies in collaboration. We bring together designers, planners and technical specialists who share one aim: to make the process clear and the results lasting.

Each member of our team plays a role in guiding projects from first idea to final approval. Some bring deep knowledge of planning law, others an eye for detail in technical design, others the creativity to reimagine spaces with elegance. Together, we balance these skills so our clients never feel lost in the process.

We are a close-knit practice. Clients get to know us personally, and we stay with them from start to finish. Not just producing drawings, but standing alongside them until the build is complete.

Meet our founder, Carl Drury

Carl Drury founded Kennet Design in 2010 and still leads the design work on every project the practice takes on. He is an architectural designer, not an ARB-registered architect, and he is direct about the difference: what he sells is a scheme that gets built, on a site that has real constraints, through a planning system that rewards preparation.

Ninety-nine per cent of the applications Kennet submits are approved, including work on listed buildings, in conservation areas, and on AONB and Green Belt sites across Berkshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire. Under Carl the practice has won a Best of Houzz award for client service four times, in 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2024.
