When our clients approached us in Old Town, they were looking to unlock the potential of a dated family home. The property had a solid footprint but was tired, dark, and cut off from the garden. The vision was clear: bring light, openness, and a more contemporary lifestyle into the heart of the house.
We began by designing a full-width rear extension, opening up the ground floor with expansive glazing and sliding doors that now connect the kitchen and living space directly onto a generous decked terrace. This outdoor platform creates a seamless link to the garden while giving the family a new space for entertaining and relaxing.
The extension itself contrasts cleanly with the original house — crisp render, sharp lines, and oversized glazing bring a modern aesthetic, while the interior has been reconfigured for flow and flexibility. The result is a bright, open-plan living area where natural light floods in, framing views out across the garden and beyond.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful design can breathe new life into an existing home — respecting its original character from the street while transforming the way it’s lived in day to day.
