When we were asked to design this extension in Newbury, our goal was to unlock the potential of the home by creating a light-filled living space that connected more naturally with the garden. The original rear layout was dark and compartmentalised, so we set out to replace it with a bold new brick extension that runs the full width of the house.
We designed large-format glazing and bi-fold doors that open up the entire rear elevation, transforming the way the home feels and functions. Inside, the open-plan layout was carefully planned to balance kitchen, dining, and lounge areas while still giving each its own character. By extending into the garden, we were able to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow — perfect for family life and entertaining.
Every detail, from the choice of brickwork to the landscaping that frames the extension, was chosen to ensure the addition felt both contemporary and in harmony with the existing house. The finished result is a modern, generous space that has completely changed the way the home is used, giving it a new sense of energy and connection.
